Camp Lanier by Sylvester Barzay
A chilling new take on Georgia’s most infamous urban legend, perfect for fans of Get Out, The Lake, and Fear Street.
Acclaimed horror author Sylvester Barzey brings fresh, fierce energy to the world of YA horror with Camp Lanier, a terrifying and thought-provoking novel that blends urban legend with real-world injustice and spine-tingling suspense.
When Taylor Johnson takes the fall for a petty crime she didn’t commit, she finds herself sentenced to a summer of community service at the mysterious Camp Lanier—a supposedly wholesome escape for at-risk youth. But from the moment Taylor arrives, something feels deeply wrong.
The lake is too still.
The stories are too familiar.
And the crying she hears at night? She’s the only one who hears it.
Rumors have swirled for years: an all-Black town flooded to make way for the lake. A curse that followed. Kids who vanish. And something-or someone—still lurking in the woods. Taylor doesn’t believe in ghost stories… until the ghost stories start believing in her.
As she investigates the camp’s twisted history, she discovers a horrifying truth buried beneath the surface—literally. To survive the summer, Taylor will have to face the darkness in the lake and in herself.
Based on the real-life legend of Lake Lanier in Georgia, Camp Lanier is a genre-bending horror story with heart, featuring a strong Black heroine, razor-sharp social commentary, and enough nightmare fuel to keep readers up late with the lights on.
Camp Lanier is available July 16, 2024, in paperback and ebook.
